Eckerd Defeats Bates, 6-1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team topped Bates College (Maine), 6-1, at the Bullard Courts Friday afternoon.
Eckerd (2-1) won two doubles matches and five singles positions for the win.
In the No. 2 slot, Marshall Hulett and Adrian Gheorghe won their doubles matchup 6-2. Eric Asakura and Lukas Palla, in the No. 3 position, won their battle 6-3.
The victorious five singles matches for the Tritons were all won in straight sets. As Marshall Hulett (6-0, 6-3) defeated his opponent quickly in the No. 3 position. Batu Ataseven (6-2, 6-1), in the top flight, and Adrian Gheorghe (6-1, 6-1), in the No. 5 slot, made quick work of their opponents.
Mario Kirkov (6-4, 6-1) and Lukas Palla (6-3, 7-6) also swept their opponents.
Eckerd returns to action on Wednesday, February 26 at 3:00 PM at Saint Leo.

Tritons Swept by No. 6 Lions
SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team fell to No. 6 Saint Leo, 7-0 at the Saint Leo Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tritons (2-2) fell to the Lions (6-3) dropping the doubles and all six singles matches.
Adrian Gheorghe in the No. 5 slot put up a good fight, winning set one 6-3, but falling 6-3, 12-10 in the final set.
Eckerd returns to action in Orlando, Fla. against Davenport University on February 28 at 12:00 PM.

Palla Secures Win for Tritons Over Davenport, 4-3
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team defeated Davenport (Mich.) 4-3 at the USTA National Campus Friday afternoon.
Eckerd (3-2) swept the doubles point against the Panthers (10-3) and clinched the win with three singles positions coming out on top.
Batu Ataseven and Mario Kirkov in the No. 1 position and Marshall Hulett with Adrian Gheorghe in the No. 2 slot, defeated their doubles opponents 6-2. Eric Asakura along with Lukas Palla narrowly defeated their opponents 7-6 to sweep the doubles point for Eckerd.
Gheorghe, in the No. 5 slot, finished first for Eckerd, giving the Tritons a 2-0 lead. Gheorghe swept Henriquez 6-0, 6-1. Ataseven played a strong match, upsetting his opponent two sets to one. Palla defeated his opponent through three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, securing the win for the Tritons.

Eckerd Nearly Sweeps Walsh, 6-1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team defeated Walsh (Ohio) 6-1 at the Fred Bullard Courts Wednesday morning.
Eckerd (4-2) took the doubles point against the Cavaliers (3-5) in a split decision.
Batu Ataseven and Mario Kirkov in the No. 1 position defeated their opponents first, winning the match 6-3. Adrian Gheorghe paired with Marshall Hulett to defeat their opponents 6-2, securing the doubles win for the Tritons.
After a two-hour rain delay, Eckerd nearly swept the singles point taking five of the six matches. Ataseven, in the No. 1 slot, won in two sets 6-3, 6-4. Kirkov put up a hard fight to secure his win through two sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Gheorghe won through two sets against his opponent 6-2, 6-4. Lukas Palla, in the No. 6 slot, won his singles point in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 3 slot, Eric Asakura fought to secure the win through three sets, defeating his Walsh opponent 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
Eckerd returns to action on Thursday, March 6 at 11:00 AM at the Fred Bullard Courts.

Tritons Dominate With Sweep Over Division 1 Greyhounds
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team dominated in a sweep of Division I Loyola (Md.) 7-0 at the Fred Bullard Courts Thursday morning.
Eckerd (5-2) swept Loyola (1-5) after taking the doubles point 2-1 before securing all six singles positions.
The No. 2 pairing of Adrian Gheorghe and Marshall Hulett and the No. 3 pairing of Eric Asakura and Lukas Palla secured the doubles point for the Tritons. Gheorghe and Hulett settled their match 6-1 while Asakura and Palla defeated their opponents 6-3 to seal the doubles victory for Eckerd.
Eckerd swept all six singles matches to shutout the Greyhounds. Eckerd's No. 2 Mario Kirkov (3-6, 6-1, 12-10), No. 4 Asakura (6-3, 2-6, 10-6) and No. 5 Gheorghe (1-6, 6-4, 10-8) all battled in three sets to earn the win. Eckerd's top singles spot of Batu Ataseven, defeated Loyola in two sets, winning 6-4 and 6-2. Hulett secured his win with a battle in the first set 7-5, finishing his match with 6-3 win in the second set. Palla took the No. 6 position with 6-4, 6-4 straight sets victory.
Eckerd men's tennis returns to action against Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Fred Bullard Courts.
